5,000,000 candles

I was just browsing around Homebase today and I noticed that they sell large halogen torches which are equivalent to 5,000,000 candles in power (what's that in watts?).

Would these be any good to use for outdoor location lighting (by pointing it at a large reflector) for REAL guerilla style low budget lighting? I know they're obviously not going to be as good as using proper lights but would they give off enough light to be any use at all?

shite, major problem with them is the light fades fast so you are all over the place with them.

Mag Lites far better alternative or LED lamps can be quite good as well,

I have a Mag-Lite torch (the traditional kind) that's not much use for lighting though - do they make BIG ones then?

What are LED lights? (I know about the tiny little red ones...)

I have a couple of those million-watt 12 volt halogen lamps. True the battery runs down quickly, but you can wire them to car batteries or make long cables (I've a set of 50' footers) and/or get one of the portable "jump start" batteries. I've lit sides of bridges & buildings with these things to give a nightime shot more depth.

Chance - is it the hexagonal one that you mean? Looks pretty cool - have you used one of these, how bright are they, how long do the batteries last etc etc etc

still digging for that link! but you can get ones bigger than the hexagonal ones and they provide sh*t loads of light and bonuses are, its a pretty constant temperature, knock down with a 1/2 ND and you get pretty natural tones.

That sounds good then because the halogen torch things need to charge for 15 hours and then only last for 20 mins use...

So you don't remember where you saw them?
